State TV in China broadcasts Moon landing
China successfully carried out the world's first soft landing of a space probe on the moon in nearly four decades, state media said.
Saturday's successful mission is the latest stage in an ambitious space program that aims to eventually put a Chinese astronaut on the moon.
The unmanned Chang'e 3 lander, named after a mythical Chinese goddess of the moon, touched down on Earth's nearest neighbour following a 12-minute landing process.
State-run China Central Television showed a computer-generated image of the Chang'e 3 lander's path as it approached the surface of the moon.
As it was just hundreds of yards away, the lander's camera began broadcasting images of the moon's surface.
The probe carries a six-wheeled moon rover called "Yutu," or "Jade Rabbit," the goddess' pet. After la...

After landing on a fairly flat, Earth-facing part of the moon, the rover was scheduled to separate from Chang'e eight hours later and embark on a three-month scientific exploration.
China sent its first taikonaut into space in 2003, becoming the third nation after Russia and the United States to achieve manned space travel independently.

(12 Dec 2020) Employees of a leading pro-China TV news station in Taiwan gathered and sang before their channel was taken down from cable TV systems at midnight on Saturday.
The Taiwanese government refused to renew its license, citing accuracy issues.
Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC) referred to repeated violations of rules on accurate reporting when rejecting CTiTV's license application.
The station has been fined 25 times in the past six years for allegedly spreading inaccurate information.
CTi TV's channel 52 went off-air on local cable news shortly after midnight on Dec. 12.
Although taken down from cable distribution systems, CTi TV will continue to broadcast on various internet video platforms, such as YouTube.
The station is owned by the Want Want China Times media group, which also publishes one of Taiwan's main newspapers.
It has long been associated with a Beijing-friendly political view, attributed partly to its extensive business interests in China.
It tried unsuccessfully to appeal the license refusal and accused the Taiwanese government of endangering media freedom.

FOX News operates the FOX News Channel (FNC), FOX Business Network (FBN), FOX News Radio, FOX News Headlines 24/7, FOXNews.com and the direct-to-consumer streaming service, FOX Nation. FOX News also produces FOX News Sunday on FOX Broadcasting Company and FOX News Edge. A top five-cable network, FNC has been the most-watched news channel in the country for 17 consecutive years. According to a 2018 Research Intelligencer study by Brand Keys, FOX News ranks as the second most trusted television brand in the country. Additionally, a Suffolk University/USA Today survey states Fox News is the most trusted source for television news or commentary in the country, while a 2017 Gallup/Knight Foundation survey found that among Americans who could name an objective news source, FOX News is the top-cited outlet. FNC is available in nearly 90 million homes and dominates the cable news landscape while routinely notching the top ten programs in the genre.
